Man Found Unresponsive In PA Pool ID'd: Coroner

A 71-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his Central Pennsylvania pool over the weekend has been identified, authorities said.

Richard B. Flickinger was found in the pool at his home on the 3100 block of Grandview Road in Penn Township, around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, York County Coroner Pamela Gay said.

Tragically, the area is one street away from a local medical center, according to Google Maps. 

Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and Flickinger was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 p.m., by Deputy Coroner Onalee Gilbert and Deputy Coroner in Training Jackie Heffner.

An autopsy was conducted at the Lehigh Valley Hospital at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, but the results are pending additional testing, 

Richard was known as "Flick" and he loved his country, was a hard worker, and was a family man, according to his obituary. He liked spending time with his family and dog Snickers when he wasn't working at Schmucks. 

He is survived by his wife Karen E. (nee Sanders) Flickinger; children Stacy Krieger and Joshua; grandchildren Dylan and Makensey Krieger; siblings Michael (Gale) and Terry (Deb); and stepmother, Patricia, as detailed in his obituary.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., "with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m.," at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown. His interment will be held privately, according to his obituary.
